The Réattu Museum, A Temple to the Arts

Calling all photography fans! The fine arts museum, the Musée Réattu in Arles should not be missed. Let’s take a look.
By Justine Fiordelli

Located in Arles, on the Rhone, in the former Grand Priory of the Order of Malta, the Réattu Museum provides visitors with plenty of inspiration for a gratifying visit. Originally built in the late fifteenth century, the building became a museum in 2008. Widely renowned, it presents works dating from the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, drawings and paintings by Picasso, but also contemporary art, not to mention ever-popular temporary exhibitions.

If you are passing through Arles, you can admire the exhibition “Les Clergue d'Arles,” that brings together a series of photographs by Lucien Clergue, a great artist who died on November 15 at the age of 80, and to whom the museum wished to pay tribute. Born in Arles in 1934, it is to him that we owe the Rencontres d'Arles photography festival, created in 1970, and which every year grows in influence. He also championed the creation of the National School of Photography, founded in 1982, and which trains the talents of tomorrow. With this new exhibition, fans of Lucien Clergue have much to be largely satisfied. The exhibition celebrates the man, his work and the history of an art form. Don’t miss it!
